Like other smoked meats, there are many things you can do with smoked salmon. If you buy it at the store though, you will probably pay quite a bit of money for it. It is generally considered a delicacy, so it cannot be gotten cheap, especially if the fish is wild-caught. This makes it an easy choice to make this dish at home!
Buying good salmon still isn’t cheap, but it is less expensive than buying it already smoked and ready to eat. Once you have it you just need to decide how you are planning on cooking it. If you want a smoky but delicate flavor you should cold smoke the fish. This will not cook it. If you want the fish to cook as it is smoked you will get a much more robust flavor. Which you choose is completely up to your personal preferences and what you are going to do with the smoked salmon.
One major perk to making your own smoked salmon is that you can choose what wood you use to smoke it. Large companies often use cheap wood, resulting in mediocre flavors. But you can buy nice wood in order to give your salmon the best flavor possible. Once your salmon is finished you can have it on toast, salads, or with a sauce over it. There is really no end to the possibilities.
